Trump posted on the social media platform "Real Social" that "based on the letters sent to various countries yesterday and those to be sent today, tomorrow and in the near future, tariffs will be imposed starting from August 1, 2025."
He also wrote: "This date has not changed and will not change." In other words, all payments must be due as of August 1, 2025 - no extension will be granted.
On July 7 local time, Trump signed an executive order officially postponing the so-called "reciprocal tariffs" to take effect on August 1. These tariffs were originally scheduled to take effect on July 9, and there had been a 90-day extension before that.
