In response to differences through dialogue, the China-Us economic and trade talks have made substantive progress

This "substantive progress" is directly reflected in the significant reduction of bilateral tariff levels. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of China said in a statement on the joint statement of the China-Us economic and trade talks in Geneva that the talks have made substantive progress and significantly reduced the bilateral tariff levels. The US side has cancelled a total of 91% of the additional tariffs, and China has accordingly cancelled 91% of the countermeasures tariffs. The US has suspended the implementation of the 24% "reciprocal tariff", and China has accordingly suspended the implementation of the 24% countermeasures tariff.
China and the United States have also unanimously agreed to establish a China-Us economic and trade consultation mechanism, maintain close communication on their respective concerns in the economic and trade fields, and carry out further consultations.
At present, the contact between China and the United States is a good start. However, the outside world should view the achievements of this round of talks rationally. Ji Wenhua pointed out that the talks marked the resumption of dialogue, but it did not mean that all differences could be easily resolved.
Regarding the trade differences between the two countries, China's position is also clear and consistent. The Chinese authorities have stated on many occasions before that any dialogue and negotiation must be carried out on the premise of mutual respect, equal consultation and mutual benefit.
Just as a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of China said, it is hoped that the US side will, on the basis of this meeting, continue to work with China in the same direction, thoroughly correct the wrong practice of unilateral tax hikes, continuously strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, maintain the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-Us economic and trade relations, and jointly inject more certainty and stability into the world economy.
