On the morning of August 26, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the China-Russia relationship is the most stable, mature, and strategically significant among major country relationships in the current turbulent and transformative world. Consistently advancing the high-level development of China-Russia relations aligns with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and serves as a stabilizing force for world peace. In May this year, I paid a state visit to Russia and attended the 80th anniversary celebration of the Soviet Union's victory in the Great Patriotic War. Next week, China will solemnly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. As the main Asian and European theaters of World War II, China and the Soviet Union made tremendous national sacrifices in resisting Japanese militarist and German fascist aggression and contributed significantly to the victory of World War II. The two sides should continue their traditional friendship, deepen strategic mutual trust, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, jointly safeguard their security and development interests, unite developing countries around the world, uphold genuine multilateralism, and promote a more just and reasonable international order.
Xi Jinping emphasized that cooperation between legislative bodies is an indispensable component of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era. He expressed the hope that both sides would actively conduct exchanges on state governance and legislative experiences to provide a more solid legislative guarantee for China-Russia strategic coordination and cooperation in various fields in the new situation.
Volodin conveyed President Putin's warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Volodin said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the Russia-China relationship has been developing deeply and effectively. The Russian State Duma is committed to implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, and striving to promote further achievements in bilateral relations. Eighty years ago, the peoples of the Soviet Union and China made significant contributions to defeating fascism. Russia is willing to jointly celebrate this hard-won victory with China, honor the memory of the martyrs, and work together to create a better future.
